What does Impart Home sell?
Impart Home sells canvas wall art: our own designs, printed to order in the US on matte canvas and sold unframed, ready to hang. The collection ranges from landscapes with a watercolor-style look to abstract wall art.
Most of the art we live with hangs somewhere ordinary, over a bed, above a sofa or along a hallway. Wall art for a living room or bedroom has two jobs: it should read clearly from the doorway, and it should still be worth a look when you stop in front of it.
Where do the designs begin?
Many of our designs begin in the natural world, with a cumulus cloud against a pale sky, gray-green washes broken by a thin band of pink light, or a terracotta form worn into pits and channels. They take their direction from nature rather than copying it.
From there, each design is judged on its color relationships, which tones sit together and which one carries the weight, and on its composition, where the eye lands first and how much of the canvas is left open.
The watercolor-style pieces in the collection show soft, layered washes in their landscapes. Other pieces are abstract, with stronger forms and earthier color, and some of our landscape wall art sits at the edge of abstraction.
How do we choose which designs become canvases?
Every design is reviewed before it can become a canvas. A design stays only when it has character, restraint and balance, and each size we sell gets its own fitted composition. On large wall art, up to 40 x 30 in (102 x 76 cm), whatever is wrong with a design grows with it.
Buying art prints online means meeting a work on a screen first, so every design is reviewed three ways: small, as you might first see it; at room scale, where composition and weight matter most; and close up, where detail either rewards a second look or gives the piece away.
Why do some designs keep their irregularities?
Some irregularities are what give a work its character, so we keep them. Granulation gathering in a wash or a soft bloom at the edge of a color can belong to a design's own language. When a mark is only an accident, it goes.
Earthen Ribbon is the clearest example. It depicts a terracotta form, eroded and pitted, with pale channels running through it. One version smoothed the pitting into an even surface. It looked tidier and said less. We kept the pitted version, because those small cavities are what make the form read as weathered.
Restraint is a decision too. Some of our minimalist wall art is spare on purpose, and it stays that way rather than gaining detail for its own sake. Neutral wall art gets the same attention, because in a narrow palette small shifts in tone do all the work.
How does a design become a canvas?
Every Impart Home canvas is printed to order in the US on matte canvas, stretched over a pine wood frame 1.25 in (3.2 cm) deep.
Once a design is approved, we prepare a production master for it, with a composition fitted to each size. Nothing is printed until you order. Our US print partner then produces your canvas through Printify.
- Sizes: 20 x 16 in (51 x 41 cm), 36 x 24 in (91 x 61 cm) and 40 x 30 in (102 x 76 cm). Portrait works use the same sizes, upright.
- Canvas: a cotton and polyester composite with a matte finish.
- Edges: mirrored. The picture continues onto the sides as a mirror image.
- Hanging: sold unframed and ready to hang, with hanging hardware on the back and rubber dots on the bottom back corners.
- Care: dust with a soft, dry cloth.
The textures you see in our watercolor prints and abstract art prints, such as pitting, are printed. There is no raised paint on the canvas.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is free on orders of $500 or more. Below that, one tracked shipping charge covers your whole order: $9.99 under $150, $14.99 from $150 to $229.99, and $29.99 from $230. You see the exact amount at checkout before you pay.
